It can be tempting to measure a good workout by how exhausted you feel at the end. But training with purpose is not about making every session the hardest one of the week. It is about matching your effort to the goal.
Start with the plan
Is the session designed to build endurance, practise strength, or challenge you with short intervals? Your target effort should follow that purpose. A coach can help you recognise the difference between a sustainable pace and a hard push.
Use more than one signal
Use heart-rate feedback as one useful signal, not the only one. Breathing, technique, perceived effort and how you feel all matter. Heart rate can also be affected by heat, hydration, fatigue, medication and individual differences.
Think in weeks, not sessions
Consistency is built across weeks, not in one heroic session. Leave room for recovery, celebrate small improvements and ask for guidance when something does not feel right.
